Catia loves spending time on Oahu and Maui with friends and family. When not working she can be found in and around the ocean – surfing, paddling, or swimming. She loves achieving her clients goals: to be safe, comfortable, and thriving in their homes!
25 years of combined expertise in occupational therapy
Damian and Catia have more than 25 years of combined expertise in occupational therapy ranging from geriatrics in the skilled nursing/home health area to infants and children in school and hospital settings. Damian and Catia both graduated from the University of Southern California with degrees in Occupational Therapy. Each has found that supporting safe and independent living for their clients in their own homes is the most important and rewarding aspect of what they do. They have provided Occupational Therapy in all different parts of the world, from the mainland to Guam and Australia, helping them to understand the diverse needs of their clients.
Our Educational Development
Beyond their academic credentials, both hold the Certified Aging in Place Specialist designation from the National Association of Homebuilders and the Executive Certification in Home Modifications (ECHM) from the University of Southern California. Catia and Damian are pursuing further credentials in home modifications through the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Specialty Certification in Environmental Modifications (SCEM) – a rigorous, peer-reviewed process.
With the average costs of a nursing home in Hawai’i exceeding $150,000 per year and the sometimes-difficult transition that is required when older adults move into supportive care or assisted living environments, we look at what it would take to enable clients to stay at home. Oftentimes, our custom-designed home modifications can provide a less expensive and more satisfying alternative for clients, families, caregivers, and the insurance companies that service them.
Experts every step of the way
Our knowledge of the healthcare industry, insurance coverage, cost/benefit concerns, and patient well-being gives us a distinct advantage when it comes to decision-making around adjusting to life and a new lifestyle after a serious illness. The medical background we have allows us to understand the specific complications that come with conditions such as dementia, sensory/motor impairments, stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injury, and normal aging.
Thank you and the rest of your team for all your hard work on seeing this situation go from a mess to a huge success….we are totally happy, especially Kupono!
TFL had a “can do attitude”, willingness to help, professionalism, courteous, good follow up to make sure clients wishes are met.
Damian was always keeping in contact with me and keeping me updated with the process of the home renovations.
Thrive For Life is very thorough through the whole process. At first I had no idea what benefits were available for my daughter. I was introduced to TFL and I was guided in the right direction.
I like everything about the ramp. I can sit down outside in my wheelchair now!
